An action that has multiple effects, but only one invocation, and a granularity of the finest kind. e.g. RETI atomically restores the PC & restores the mode & restores the Stack pointer & enables interrupts. It does this, so it itself cannot be interrupted in between any of these steps, clobbering the $k0 register, and making it impossible to return to the pre-interrupt location of PC.
