Binding Energy

Adding up the masses of the Protons and Neutrons of the nucleus of an Atom rarely equals the actual mass of the nucleus. The difference is the potential energy holding the nucleus together called the binding energy $E_B$

$$M_{\text{nucleus}}{c}^2+E_B=\sum _i{m}_i{c}^2$$
