Beer-Lambert Law

In Optics, the Beer-Lambert Law describes the Attenuation of Light as it propogates, as an equation.

$$I(z)=I_0{e}^{-\alpha z}$$

$\alpha$ : Absorption Coefficient $z$ : Path length through the medium

• Attenuation = $\frac{I(z)}{I_0}=e^{-\alpha z}$
• $-\log$ Attenuation $=\alpha z\equiv$ Absorbance $\equiv$ Optical Density
